"The mountain is a Buddha and the Buddha is a mountain”. Leshan Giant Buddha was built between 713 and 803AD, initiated by a monk Haitong, and is the world's largest and tallest stone Buddha statue.

Sichuan is not only the gateway to Tibet, but also the second largest Tibetan area in China. For those who plan a trip to Tibet, this half day tour gives a good opportunity to experience the culture shock by walking around Tibetan Quarter nearby Wuhou Temple.

Itinerary

Day 1Leshan Giant Buddha - Giant Buddha - Tibetan Quarter -Jinli Old Street

8:00-10:30  Pick up and go to Leshan Giant Buddha

You will be met by your guide and driver in your hotel, holding the logo of SunriseChina Expeditions and your name sign.We driver about two hours to go to Leshan Giant Buddha

10:30-13:30  Walk up the mountain to visit Giant Buddha

On arrival you will choose to walk up the mountain to see the Giant Buddha, if there is a long queue, you can take a boat to visit it. Lunch will be arranged in the local restaurant.

13:30-15:30  Go back to downtown of Chengdu                                    

It takes about 2 hours back to Chengdu.

15:30-18:00  A Taster of Tibet - Tibetan Quarter Visit

Drive back to Tibetan Quarter nearby Wuhou Temple; Known as Little Lhasa, Chengdu's colorful Tibetan quarter is as close as one can get to Tibet without traveling to the remote Sichuan countryside or crossing the border to Tibet itself. Wander down Wuhouci Heng Jie, directly opposite Wuhou Temple, and take in the sights: monks wrapped in maroon robes counting beads behind their backs, vendors selling yak butter on the street, and shop after shop of Tibetan Buddhist religious icons, prayer flags and wheels, tapestries, incense, wildly patterned leather boots, and beads of every hue, size and price.

We will not only walk around this Tibetan Quarter, but also taste Tibetan food like yak meat, drink yak butter tea, together with a Tibetan culture demonstration by our guide.

18:00-19:00  Jinli Old Street Tour

Just outside Wuhou Temple is Jinli Street, a narrow street of shops, restaurants and craft stalls. The architecture of this quaint pedestrian street mirrors the Qing Dynasty style of the temple making it one of the most popular Chengdu places of interest.

  • The quoted price is for a 11-hour tour per day. If you use more than 6 hours or less than 11 hours per day it will still be considered a full day.

  • It is a soft walk in Leshan Giant Buddha and downtown of Chengdu, a pair of comfortable walking shoes is necessary.
