Wolong Panda Base Volunteer Experience

Spend a meaningful day supporting giant panda conservation and education in Chengdu. Enjoy convenient private hotel pickup and transfer directly to a professional panda conservation base, where you'll register with your original passport and join an English-language briefing and volunteer training. After changing into a standard volunteer uniform, you'll tour the base and take part in hands-on activities — helping prepare bamboo or food for the pandas, making panda wotou (steamed bamboo-and-grain buns), and watching keepers work with the pandas. Please note: to protect the pandas' health and in line with China's national conservation regulations, volunteers observe rather than personally feed or touch the pandas — only trained keepers are permitted to do so.

After lunch at the base restaurant, you'll watch a panda conservation documentary and take part in further educational activities before receiving an official volunteer certificate and group photos, then being transferred safely back to your Chengdu hotel.

This is an education-focused conservation experience rather than a close-contact animal interaction — well suited to families and to adult travelers with a genuine interest in wildlife protection. The exact order of the day's activities depends on which base you visit — see the schedules below.

Base options: Dujiangyan China Giant Panda Garden (closed for renovation since April 23, 2026 — reopening date TBA) / Wolong China Giant Panda Garden Shenshuping Base / Ya'an Bifengxia Giant Panda Base

Age requirement: 6–70. Children 6–12 must be accompanied by a paying adult (same rate for adults and children). Book at least 6 days in advance. Full refund if the activity becomes unavailable after booking.

Schedule — Dujiangyan China Giant Panda Garden
Currently closed for renovation (since April 23, 2026; reopening date TBA) — schedule to be added once it reopens and details are confirmed.

Schedule — Wolong China Giant Panda Garden Shenshuping Base (approximate — may be adjusted based on group size and the pandas' condition)
Morning: Registration and pre-activity briefing at the science education center; visit the museum and tour the base grounds; observe and learn about keepers' behavioral training with the pandas; continue touring the base
Midday: Lunch at the base cafeteria
Afternoon: Learn the panda wotou recipe and make your own; watch a panda conservation documentary; return volunteer supplies and receive your certificate and souvenir
Late afternoon (approx.): Return transfer to downtown Chengdu
